Vehicle owners in several Nepali provinces have opportunities to reduce overdue vehicle-tax bills or penalties during fiscal year 2083/84, according to a MeroAuto review published on October 22. The concessions are not a nationwide waiver: each province sets its own conditions, eligible vehicles and payment deadline. Owners should check the rules at their provincial transport office before assuming an old bill will be waived.

For example, MeroAuto reports that Lumbini offers a 50% reduction in the penalty on overdue vehicle tax when qualifying owners pay and renew by the end of Poush 2083. It says Sudurpashchim waives tax and renewal penalties for vehicles with at least five years of unpaid dues, while other provinces have separate provisions for deregistering old or unusable vehicles. These measures can matter to car owners bringing registration records up to date, but the tax itself, required documents and final amount depend on the applicable provincial rules.
